All about the Cross Keys Hotel
Dating back over 850 years and used as a base by Oliver Cromwell during the Civil War, the Cross Keys Hotel is a truly historic building. Today, it is a friendly pub with rooms that offers clean comfortable and competitively priced accomodation. With a friendly atmosphere, we are ideally situated to meet your needs, be it a sociable meal or a drink, a business stopover, or a weekend break. The pub has wheelchair access, and our caring and efficient staff extend a friendly welcome to all of our guests taking great pride in helping to make your stay a truly "home-from-home" experience.

We are proud of our reputation for serving good quality, value for money pub food and we offer a varied choice including special two for ten pounds promotions and our famous sunday lunch roasts. We serve a good selection of cask ales, draught beers, plus a wide choice of wines by the bottle or glass.

A welcome escape from the busy world outside, our five bedrooms are fitted and furnished to ensure your relaxation and comfort. There is a choice of twin, double or triple rooms; two having a shared bathroom/shower, and three being En-Suite rooms. One of our doubles, 'The Cromwell Suite', also has a four poster bed. All rooms are equipped with tea and coffee making facilities, a television and a dressing table / working area.

With Sky Sports and Premiership Plus showing on two large screen televisions, plus a pool table, a darts board, and a jukebox, you will find plenty to amuse you including regular Karaoke, Quiz, and Disco nights.

Reputed to be haunted by more than one friendly ghost, this charming old bulding is a fine example of the decorative exterior relief work known as 'pargeting' and has many interesting and oiginal features inside, including the original beams, one of which is rumoured to be a tree the building was originally built around.

Best approached from the M11, leave at Jn8 or Jn10 and follow the clearly posted signs for the B184 and Saffron Walden Town Centre. Just before entering the town square, the Cross Keys Hotel can be found on the corner of King Street and the High Street. Audley End railway station is two miles away and Stansted Airport is only ten miles away.

Named for it's location in an area famous for growing the Saffron Crocus (Saffron from the Crocus used to dye clothing for the royals in days gone by, and Walden meaning Walled In), Saffron Walden iis set in the heart of the pleasant essex countryside with many interesting attractions nearby, including Duxford Imperial War Museum with its historic aircraft collection and Audley End House, a stately jacobean home that promotes concerts and picnic events.
